my story
Welcome to Learnable Experiences from an Experienced Learner! My name is Alyssa, I am 21 years old and I live in Cedar Falls, Iowa - home to the University of Northern Iowa.
Background
Growing up in small town Iowa, I had a wonderful childhood full of memories! I began associating with certain values and beliefs from a young age.
My family is such an important part of my life; I wouldn't trade them for anything! :) I would definitely say I'm a daddy's girl. My mom and I are best friends; she has always been there for me! Despite being the older sister, my brother and I have always had a great relationship. He would do anything for me!

Ever since I was little, I have always had the dream of being a teacher. I loved learning for learning's sake and had teachers throughout my education that encouraged me and influenced my decisions in what to teach. Sure, I investigated other options outside of teaching but something always pulled me back to my childhood dream. It wasn't until my freshman year of high school did I realize exactly what I wanted to teach. My world studies teacher, Mrs. Kvale, taught in a particular way that caught my attention and that is when I decided I wanted to teach social studies! Throughout this blog, I will be writing about my experiences through teaching and what I am learning through the process. Right now, I am waiting until the spring semester to do my week long field experience then I will be participating in my student teaching during next fall semester and I can't wait!! :)
Another important part of my life is my better half, my boyfriend Cody! He is my rock and balances our relationship. He encourages me and supports me through everything. We love to go on adventures together and live life to the fullest. We will have been together for two years on November 3rd (Boy, does time fly!) and I wouldn't change a moment!! We love to watch sports, especially football (Go Pats!!), hanging out with friends, going to see movies, share a love of music, take trips together, and enjoy frequent date nights :)

Throughout college, I have grown as a person. I have gain many friends and my independence, and a closer relationship with God. I have been actively involved in many areas while in college, some of those being in leadership roles. Being actively involved with my church here in Cedar Falls is also important to me.
As I stated on the home page, one of the reasons I started this blog was to share my interests and experiences and how I learn from them. Some of the main interests that will be prominent on the blog will be my love of travel (the collage at the top of the page are places I've traveled to), baking and cooking (my love for chocolate will clearly stand out!), reading, fashion (I love color!), and organizing.
Some random facts about me:
1) I live life one list at a time.
2) I tend to be a TV junkie and am working towards an abundant movie collection.
3) I love to read all kinds of blogs.
4) I really like the times of the holidays - the decorations, atmosphere, being with loved ones, everything (being on break from school isn't a bad bonus!)
5) I try to be crafty but don't always succeed.
6) I MIGHT be addicted to Pinterest... hence why there will be post centered on Pinterest every Friday :)
7) I love to stay connected with people, especially those loved ones that live far away.
Something else I have been working on, especially lately, is being healthier. My family did not always put healthy eating and being active at the forefront. My dad was never a lover of vegetables, therefore there were never any on our dinner table. So now that I am living on my own (well, with Cody), I decided it was time to make healthier choices and start being more active. Whenever I travel, I always try to keep an open mind and try new foods. I just need to transfer that to everyday life. I have gotten better, but cooking for both Cody and I can sometimes be hard because he is pickier than I am. I wouldn't say that either of us are unhealthy, but there is always room for improvement. I will be sharing our journey through becoming healthier with you and of course asking for advice!
There is just a little about me and my life! I'm sure there will be more to come as I continue with my posts :)
